About the Network
The International Network of Women in Solidarity is a project of Councillorship for Emigration and International Solidarity of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
The Network is supported by numerous public personalities, first and foremost among these several well-known women who, through their example and efforts, have made enormous contributions to improving the living conditions of thousands of women around the world and to the implementation of the principle of equal opportunity.
The Network was conceived as a means to bring together women working for development in their communities in order to promote reciprocal collaboration through meetings, events and information sharing.
It is increasingly evident that it is the women, especially in the so-called developing nations (defined by the DAC table produced by the OECD), who are the first victims of situations of deprivation and at the same time the greatest hope for change. Across the planet, thousands of spontaneously formed groups of women, with varying degrees of organization, have demonstrated in the last thirty years that when women unite in purpose they are fully able to take control not only of their own destiny but that of the community as well.
An investment in projects focusing on and involving women means contributing to the development of the community, improving the nutrition, health care, education and social development of real people, in particular of those at greatest risk in these areas: the children.
Investing in women can lead to meaningful change because their attachment to land and family and their heightened sense of responsibility serve to guarantee that just one euro invested effectively in their ideas and plans will reap benefits and help to make tangible improvements in their and the communities' living conditions and, just as importantly over the long term, will spur the creation of self-sustaining circles of local development.
This bringing together of groups of women from developing countries with other women from around the world and with those in the western world who believe in and want to invest in these women and their projects through the Network is an important opportunity for expanding and consolidating relationships and for directing resources towards concrete and realistic goals.
